Fenugreek (Trigonella foenum graecum), Hyssop (Hyssopus officinalis), Fennel (Foeniculum vulgare), Licorice (Glycyrrhiza glabra)


About the ingredients

Hyssopus officinalis (Hyssop) is an herb that has been used since ancient times.  Hyssop has moderate antioxidant and antimicrobial activity against Gram positive and negative bacteria activities. It has been used in traditional herbal medicine due to its  properties as an antiseptic, cough reliever, and expectorant, 

Foeniculum vulgare  (Fennel seed) It has an expectorant effect and is classified as a anti-spasmodic, It is also very rich in vitamin C, A, calcium, iron and potassium.

Glycyrrhiza glabra commonly known as licorice, has been used as a flavoring agent in foods and medicinal remedies for thousands of years. Licorice root has been widely used around the world to treat cough since ancient times. It contains several active compounds including glycyrrhizin, glycyrrhetinic acid, flavonoids, isoflavonoids, and chalcones. Glycyrrhizin and glycyrrhetinic acid are considered to be the main active components and are potent inhibitors of cortisol metabolism, due to their steroid-like structures. The root of this plant has been used for treatment of coughs, colds, asthma, and COPD

Trigonella foenum-graecum (Fenugreek seed) has a.o been found to be useful for lung problems, and sinus congestion.


Dosage

- Optimal dosage is to administer once a day.

- Horse: 2 scoops.

- Pony: 1½ scoops.

- 1 scoop contains approximately 7½ grams.


Administration

Can be given through the feed. Moisten the herbs so that it does not blow out of the food bowl.


Respiratory problems in the horse are very common, from an innocent cough or nasal discharge to a chronic cough. The cause of respiratory problems can vary. Sometimes the airways become irritated by a dusty or unsavory (stable) environment, but a viral or bacterial infection can also cause respiratory problems.


If it is difficult to administer this product several times a day, 1 time per day or 1 time per 2 days will suffice. Then give the maximum dose of one day. Even then, this product can be used effectively, but the reaction may take a little longer. When your animal is running smoothly again, you can reduce the dosage to half of the indicated dosage.


Duration of treatment

In an acute situation, the duration of treatment is relatively short. This can vary from a few days to 3 weeks. If there is improvement, continue with the administration of this product for a few more days.



With prolonged discomfort, the effect is usually visible after 1 to 3 weeks. Upon improvement, a maintenance dose can be used. This is usually half the dosage indicated on the packaging. When dosing this product, carefully observe the reaction of the animal. A higher dose may be required in the beginning, this product can be safely given in a double dose. Reduce the dose gradually to the lowest possible dose.


This product can be given permanently. It is advisable to take a stop week after every 6 to 8 weeks. In this way, after the stop week, the 'stimulus' can be offered again. Resume the treatment immediately if there is reason to do so.


Interaction and contraindication

Always use during pregnancy and lactation in consultation with the attending veterinarian.
